Taking over an allotment (No Dig )
step 1 Write down a plan of your allotment and decide where any structures may go like the shed or compost bins or growing beds.
step 2 Cut down any weeds as close to the ground as possible.
step 3 Mark out your first growing bed, cover it with something that will decompose like cardboard. Cover the cardboard with as much compost up to 6 inches deep and more if possible. Currently available at the allotment site is manure and wood chips
step 4 Plant the first crop in the newly prepared bed, potatoes or onion sets are always a good first crop in the spring and easily grown
step 5 Continue making new growing beds and planting other crops
Charles Dowding author of a number of books on growing using the no dig method has a youtube channel which can provide useful information.
